Education
Nicolas has both a Master's and Bachelor's of Arts in Anthropology from Northern
Arizona University. His Baccalaureat is from Marcel Pagnol school in Paris,
France where he graduated with a Major in Economics and a Minor in Languages.
Teaching Experience
Nicolas has taught Anthropology and Sociology courses in at Coconino Community College, Glendale Community College and DeVry University over the past 10 years. He is a popular instructor and was voted Teacher of the Semester as well as asked to read student names at graduation several times, which is considered an honor. He is also an author of a curriculum guide, a sabbatical awardee, and has been featured in student publications such as the DeVry University Times. He sometimes serves a guest speaker in his colleagues' classes on topics such as Jazz drums history or Central Asian nomads. Classes he has taught over the years include ANT 102 (Cultural Anthropology), ASB 210 (Women In Other Cultures), SOC 185 (Culture and Society), HUMN 432, (Technology,
Culture, and Society), HUMN 430 (Social Issues in Technology), COLL 147, (Critical Thinking), and HUMN 410 (Contemporary History).
As a graduate assistant at Northern Arizona University, Nicolas aided in Southwestern Native Culture classes for the Anthropology Department. He was also a consultant and tutor for the Northern Arizona University French Language Department, and a guest lecturer for the Northern Arizona Music Department on the history of drums in jazz music.
Cultural Brokerage and Diplomacy
Nicolas worked as project assistant for United Nations Development Programme, Confederation of Independent States (Central Asian Division) and as a UNESCO volunteer for Kyrgyz physical education development programs. Also in Kyrgyztan, Nicolas worked as a consultant for Jibek Jolu or The Silk Road organization, concentrating on areas such as cultural revival, tourism and sport development.
